"And let them make a sanctuary, (sacred place) that I may dwell among them. "According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it." Exodus 25:8,9
From the time that Noah built the ark to the "Divine Design" of the tabernacle, and the glorious temple in Jerusalem, God has given explicit instructions and a precise pattern for their construction.
If God gave all these instructions in the Old Testament, would we not expect His New Testament temple of living stones to be just as exact in design and construction, although built of human origin? But we have ignored His pattern in these last days and done it our way! It's simple, just rent a building, fill it with chairs, invite the world and preach a soft message of hope and the only signs you will see is the sign in the yard with the time and temperature.
If we could only see God's blueprints of all that He instructed man to build, we would see that He desired them to be built to His specifications down to the most minute detail! The human body would be another example of His attention to precise detail! The entire universe was created by faith and held together by His Divine power.
For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. I Corinthians 3:9
THE APOSTLE LAYS THE FOUNDATION
According to the grace of God, which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 3:10,11
If the foundation is wrong the whole building will be off and so it is with God's spiritual house built of living stones. Throughout the years there have been plenty of churches built on wrong foundations, many with the good intentions of man but because they were not God's design, they failed becoming dead and lifeless mausoleums.
Jesus Himself laid the foundation of the first expression of His spiritual body by imparting truth in His apostles, His Divine architects who would then carry the blueprint throughout the world. Pentecost was the first assembly for the Jews and the apostle Paul was given the plans for the Gentile church, all built by the Lord's instruction.
You would never dream of building a house without a blueprint drawn by an architect or start a church without an apostle. Most churches are started by pastors never mentioned in the New Testament because that is not their calling, it is the Divine mission of the apostle! It would be like a dentist trying to do the job of a building contractor, it just wouldn't work!
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11,12
TRAIN, EQUIP AND SEND
That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:17
The "Five-Fold" ministry given by God is to equip and train the body of Christ for ministry. If only a pastor was given this mission, he would do what pastors do: pen up the sheep and feed them, never sending them out for fear of competition! This is the model we have today which has rendered large mega churches full of un-trained people.
Church growth has been equated with God's favor and anointing as seen by the world, but growth is not always of God! I heard someone say one time that a dead dog on the side of the road will double in size in a couple of weeks, but it is still a dead dog! Compared to what Jesus had, a body of 120 followers on fire and trained in the streets we have churches of thousands who don't know anything about ministry or the will of God for His church!
The body of Christ is a supernatural entity, made up of living breathing Spirit filled believers, not an organization, but an organism. Likened to the human body each person has a part and function in order to give and maintain life to the body. The church is not a place to go, but a Person to be, the very person of the living Lord Jesus in the earth today! We are the temple of the Spirit of God, His desired dwelling in us! Christ in us the hope of Glory!
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. I Peter 2:4,5
