"Most assuredly, I say to you, 'He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.'" John 5:24
Several years ago, as we were closing our men's residential program, we had a young man who had been addicted to heroin and had been with us for some time. One day I had a friend stop by on his way to California and he and his daughter stayed up late talking about Jesus with Eric.
Unbeknownst to me when they went to bed Eric had somehow contacted his drug dealer and had him drop off $200.00 worth of heroin and cocaine in my mailbox. When everyone was asleep, he shot up the entire bag of dope, a lethal dose. When I came downstairs to wake up my friend, Eric was sitting on the couch fully dressed and when I slapped him on the back and asked what he was doing up he fell over dead!
I immediately laid him on the floor, woke my wife and friend, and called 911. Eric had dried blood on his shirt, so I figured that he had aspirated and died at about 3:00 am. We prayed desperately seeking a miracle from God and when the EMT arrived Eric was breathing although still in a coma. I told them to take him to Harris Hospital which they did, and they put him on a respirator.
We called our little church and told everyone to go to the chapel at Harris for a prayer meeting and on the way down God spoke to me and told me to go by Eric's room and blow the breath of life into him which I did and went to the prayer service. After we prayed the doctor called Eric's dad and told him to come to Eric's room, they were going to remove the respirator, so we rushed up, and when they removed it Eric's eyes popped open!
Eric was back at our home three days later, lifting weights and healthy as a horse! He then joined the Army and was sent to Iraq. When he returned, I married him and his fiancé. Today, he works as a machinist in his dad's business. His wife and he have a son and twin girls! All praise and glory to God!
"Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live." John 5:25
