Pondering the Path of Life

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. Psalms 1:1,2

There are truly many paths to ponder, but there is only one pathway that will lead you to eternal life and that is the path that Jesus is leading you to follow. He is the way, the truth and the life, and for those that find Him and follow Him there is peace. The world and the devil offer many paths to follow but they all end up in destruction and death, and the outcome is eternal damnation.

Jesus said, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction , and there are many who go in by it. "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it." Matthew 7:13,14 The word narrow literally means to suffer tribulation and most people will only travel on the path of least resistance. For example when you are driving do you choose crowded streets with many stop lights, or broad freeways with unlimited access?

STANDING IN THE PATH OF SINNERS

Do not enter the path of the wicked and do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn away from it and pass on. Proverbs 4:14,15

Paths are a route or course that one decides to follow and some will lead you to destruction depending on who is walking with you. When you enter the path of the wicked you are allowing yourself to be influenced by their way of life and the results can be devastating. We are called to the sinner, not to be like them, but to turn them to paths of righteousness. Many a saint has fallen by endeavoring to turn a sinner from the error of his ways only to fall into sin himself.

Life is a journey and without the guiding light of the word and the Spirit it can become very difficult to navigate. Before I met the Lord Jesus I was captain of my own ship and charted my own course of life, needless to say, my ship sank and I wrecked my life. If we could only turn back the hands of time after we have seen our future outcome I believe many would turn to Jesus for His guidance; but as my older brother says, "Too soon old, too late smart."

THE COUNSEL OF THE UNGODLY

A wise man is strong, yes a man of knowledge increases strength; for by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 24:5,6

True wisdom only comes through the Holy Spirit's illumination of God's word into a man's heart. There are many today that are filled with worldly knowledge and give it out to whomever is naive enough to receive it. Oprah, Dr. Phil, and a multitude of experts in their field, including doctors, lawyers and psychiatrists will give you counsel that is not godly and will always lead you down the wrong path.

People are running to and fro seeking counsel from anyone that they think can help them, for instance many were led astray by stock brokers, bankers and investment experts only to lose their hard earned wealth and end up broke and in despair. One such incidence was the Madoff ponzi scheme that left hundreds of seemingly intelligent folks ripped off by a man everyone thought was an economic genius.

If only we would listen to God and take counsel from the Holy Spirit we would indeed be a wealthy people endowed with the riches of heaven. Jesus instructs us to trust in His word, not to worry about tomorrow and to invest in the kingdom of God which has a far better return than anything on the planet.

SITTING IN THE SEAT OF THE SCORNFUL

Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." II Peter 3:3,4

It seems as though today everywhere you look people are mocking Christianity and making fun of the Lord and His word. Even in His church people poke fun at and make light of the second coming, or the judgment that even a blind man could tell is now coming upon the earth.

Hollywood has jumped on the band wagon with movies mocking the Lord and any time a man of God is portrayed he is a weak little wimpy guy with no moral character. Part of the problem has been the way we have walked before the lost and because we have exhibited little power we have been made fun of. Gandi once said of Christianity, "I like your Christ, but I don't like your Christians because they are not like your Christ." What a sad indictment against the church of Jesus Christ!

Jesus was also mocked and scorned because of the powers of darkness recognizing who He was and that He would ultimately destroy them. When He first appeared before the temple and the Pharisees and they saw Him turn over the tables of the money changers and confront their apathetic religious system with the truth, they began to scorn Him. Even when He was on the cross dying for their sins they mocked Him.

Beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing any to perish but that all should come to repentance. II Peter 3:8,9

THE HIGHWAY OF HOLINESS

A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the "Highway of Holiness." The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool shall not go astray. Isaiah 35:8

Walking the "Highway of Holiness" requires one to deny himself by giving his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and submitting to the cross to be brought to him to carry. The cross will ultimately destroy everything in ones life that does not belong to God. When a person decides to enter the narrow gate that leads to eternal life the Lord Jesus will take him by the hand as a gentle Shepherd and lead him in the way of righteousness.

Salvation is a continuous walk with Jesus on the path of life and although there is a ditch on either side of the road that many including myself have fallen into, the Lord will always offer His strong hand to lift us out. The pathway of God is not an easy way but the rewards for walking with Him to eternal life is worth it all. If you have never given your life to the Lord Jesus Christ today could be the day of your salvation.

As the saying goes, today could be the first day of the rest of your life. Today could be the day that all of your sins could be washed away and you could become a new creation in Christ. If you have been on the path and have fallen off, its not too late to repent and start over, just ask the Lord to forgive you, dust yourself off and start back up the trail of life. Remember your eternal destiny depends upon the path you take.

Fear not to place thy hand within the nail pierced palm. Fear not to trust His guidance. The way He trod is marked with bleeding feet and wet with tears. He leadeth thee aright, and heaven's splendor soon shall open to thy spirit, and thou shalt know that all triumphant souls, those who have overcome indeed have found their entrance by this path into realms of light. Prophecy given by John G. Lake, 1916
