To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. I Timothy 1:2
I can relate to Timothy, he being my namesake and in my later walk with Jesus a constant source of inspiration and strength. When I was a kid I was asked to go to church with the next door neighbors and when I returned I asked my mother, "Whats all this God business?"
Somewhere around the third grade I was made to go to Sunday school and I hated it because they called me Timothy, but ended up going, motivated by a beautiful girl that also attended! Let's face it, I wasn't cut out for church life, being a heathen and destined for success and riches in the world, although from my first memories of God I knew He was indeed real and I believed, praying the prayer: "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, If I should die before I wake I pray the Lord my soul to take!" every night in fear that I might not wake up.
It took thirty three years for my soul to finally be saved and I have walked with God through the good, bad and the ugly for thirty eight years and the books of I and II Timothy have shaped the ministries that God has called me to and today I am proud to be called Timothy and hope I would aspire to the greatness of his life and ministry being mentored by a man who was mentored by the apostle Paul! What an honor!
You therefore my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. II Timothy 2:1,2
Your servant in Christ, Timothy Laughlin
