Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: idolatry. Galatians 5:20

We don't hear of idolatry much in these modern times and when spoken of, it usually refers to bowing down to a molten image or foreign god in the old testament, but the apostle Paul is addressing it to us today!

An idol is anything you love more than God, it may be money, things, people and even your own life! Today the love of self is promoted throughout the world, in the media and in magazines such as US, People and Self. An illustration of loving self is the "Selfie" in which millions seem to love taking their own pictures, idolizing their own image!

The children of Israel strayed from God and made a molten image while Moses was receiving the "Ten Commandments" on the mountain and Paul told the Corinthian church that those things he spoke of were examples for us today that we should not lust after evil things.

And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty three thousand fell; (died) nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; nor complain as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. I Corinthians 10:7-11
