But the fruit of the Spirit is longsuffering. Galatians 5:22

Longsuffering and patience are synonymous as they display a person's ability to wait on the Lord, resist anger and to allow people to be transformed by His word. We who are believers ought to have the same patience with people that God has had with us!

One of the divine attributes is patience toward a world out of control and in need of salvation and if we would think about all the times we were disobedient and deserving of punishment, and yet God had mercy and suffered long over us, we would be more patient with others. The fruit of patience always triumphs over judgment.

Jesus called two of His disciples, James and John, "Sons of thunder" because they wanted to call fire down from Heaven because the Samaritans didn't receive Jesus, but he rebuked them saying, "You don't know what manner of spirit you are of!" We too should take His advice and learn to have patience with everyone, even our enemies!

Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation. II Peter 3:14,15
