But the fruit of the Spirit is gentleness. Galatians 5:23

The Greek word in this scripture for gentleness is meekness, a character quality of a humble servant of the Lord. My mother often called me a "Bull in a china closet" and rightly so because I was not a gentle quiet kid! Most kids are boisterous and loud but there are a few who are meek timid souls, mostly women and they have a very gentle spirit.

Meekness is almost never compared to strong and courageous, but Jesus said that the meek would inherit the earth! Meekness is not synonymous with leadership because most leaders are not meek, but Jesus was. He had a gentle Spirit and so do all who are filled with the Holy Spirit because He is meek and gentle even though He possesses the greatest power in the universe and is the Leader of all who are born again!

To walk in the Spirit is to be gentle and meek with those we minister to and to be able to touch their lives with the comfort that Holy Spirit gives. It seems strange that we have the greatest power ever residing within us but at the same time we are to be gentle souls! Remember, Holy Spirit speaks in a still small voice and to hear Him is to be meek, gentile and quiet.

Let your adornment be the hidden person of the heart, the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. I Peter 3:4

Your servant in Christ, Timothy Laughlin
